Burke Virginia Real Estate

Burke Virginia Real Estate

Designated by CNN.Money.com in 2008 as the 31st best place to live in the US, Burke, VA is a family-oriented community set around Burke Lake. For decades, families have been riding around Burke Lake Park in a miniature steam engine, hiking or biking along the trails fishing in Burke Lake, or playing golf on the public golf course. Named for Silas Burke (1796–1854), a 19th century farmer, merchant, and local politician who built a house on a hill overlooking the valley of Pohick Creek in approximately 1824. The house is still standing. When the Orange and Alexandria Railroad was constructed in the late 1840s, the railroad station at the base of that hill was named Burke's Station after Burke, who owned the land in the area and donated a right-of-way to the railroad company. Currently, railroad tracks on the same historical line are part of the Virginia Railway Express commuter rail system, of which two stations lie in the Burke area.

Dining

We love Italian and one of the best restaurants in Northern Virginia is Villa Bella located smack in the middle of Burke Centre as well as Rafagino Italian Restaurant on Old Keene Mill Road. For great Middle Eastern food we like Aladdin’s just off Burke Road as well as Cedar Cafe-a hidden gem on Shiplett Blvd.  Our families have been ordering Chinese food at Duk Wo for years and we all love the casual Mexican lunches and dinners at Anita’s.

Parks, Recreation Centers, Biking Trails and Golf

A large portion of Burke—Burke Centre-- falls within the Burke Conservatory, a beautiful 1,700-acre Planned Residential Community (PRC) with acres of walking and bike trails.  Five Burke Centre community center facilities are available for use and rental by Conservancy members only.  The Burke Centre Conservancy also owns and maintains five large pools. Burke Centre pool membership is offered for sale from March through September to both residents and non-residents. Burke Centre pool membership provides access to all of the five conveniently located pools, seven days a week, from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

And, of course, there is Burke Lake a  218-acre lake with fishing, boating, rowboat rental, camping, a miniature train, a carousel, outdoor volleyball courts, open fields, an 18-hole par 3 golf course, clubhouse with snack bar and driving range, disk golf, horse shoe pits, an ice cream parlor, picnic areas with grills, 3 playgrounds, trails, amphitheater, and miniature golf course. Lake Burke is owned by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF), the surrounding park land comprising Burke Lake Park is owned by the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA).
