McLean Virginia Real Estate

McLean Virginia Real Estate

In close proximity to Washington DC, McLean is known for its many upscale homes, as well as its shopping and malls, including the nearby Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria. McLean is home to many diplomats, members of Congress and high-ranking federal government officials, entrepreneurs and service businesses. The community received its name from John Roll McLean, the former publisher and owner of The Washington Post, who, with Stephen Benton Elkins and the bankroll of French aristocrat Jean-Pierre Guenard, built in 1906 the electrified Great Falls and Old Dominion Railway (later the Washington and Old Dominion Railway), which connected the area with Washington, D.C. McLean named a railroad station after himself where the rail line (traveling on the present route of Old Dominion Drive) crossed the old Chain Bridge Road. The community itself was founded in 1910, when the communities of Lewinsville and Langley merged.

Transportation

McLean has easy access to Washington DC, Maryland, Reston, and Loudoun County. The Capital Beltway, George Washington Memorial Parkway, Interstate 66, Dulles Access Road, Dolley Madison Boulevard/Chain Bridge Road, Georgetown Pike, and Old Dominion Drive all run through it.
Best yet, Metro is coming. The new Silver Line branches off the Orange Line immediately east of the West Falls Church station. The new track runs in the median of the Dulles Access Road until an elevated bridge takes it over Virginia Route 123. Two elevated stops along the west side of Route 123 serve the national headquarters of CapitalOne and two enclosed Tysons Corner shopping malls. The track then enters a tunnel which emerges in the median of Virginia Route 7. Two elevated stations above Route 7 serve the western section of Tysons Corner. The elevated track then swings into the median of the Dulles Access Road until it reaches the airport.
